A Grand Prix Special Blue Ribbon Day, 69.4%!

What a day, what a day!! Karl Mikolka and Shannon in the morning, Lindsey and Lance winning the Grand Prix Special with a 69.4% (in retrospect, a solid halt at the beginning may have gotten us a 70%!!!!! 🙂 ) and I (with Curtis’ great directions) parked my trailer into it’s teeny, tiny trailer parking place at Arroyo. What a day, what a day!!!

A great big thank you to everyone who’s helped us get here especially Shannon Peters! Your expertise, your experience, your tenacity…thank you…

Lindsey Stroh, Lancelot, Vickie Argals 69.4% Grand Prix Special, Del Mar Mid-Winter Dressage Show.

A quick update on yesterday!

I really had to pinch myself several times yesterday.

Karl Mikolka with Shannon Peters in the morning and a great ride with Lindsey and Lance in the afternoon. What an amazing day.

Karl and Shannon’s work blew us all away. It was so wonderful to see Shannon’s work in such broken down into concise detail. Shannon has been working with Karl for decades and works with his concepts and ideas everyday; in her own work with her horses and with her students and their horses. So watching Karl instruct Shannon was like watching Shannon ride (which we get to do most days) with subtitles…subtitles with an slight Austrian accent and lots and lots of details. What a morning!!!!

We had to leave Shannon and Karl at noon to head back to the show grounds for Lance’s Grand Prix test. The warm up was so good and the ride was wonderful.

Lindsey and Lance, with Shannon’s help, have found a new forward balance. It take a lot of new muscles to stay in this new balance for both Linds and Lance. And it takes a lot of brain power to concentrate to be able to sustain it throughout the whole test!!! Lindsey was right on, Lance tried really hard to think and think and think…he was thinking soooo hard he lost his way in a couple of lines. 66.4%, third place (the top four rides were 66%-67.1%). I am sooo proud of the both of them!!! They have made such big changes in balance and technique in 2 weeks!!! Amazing!!! Thank you, thank you Shannon Peters…

So today is more Karl and Shannon this morning and the Grand Prix Special with Lindsey and Lance at 1:36.

Time to fit in a shower and off to the show grounds to feed Lance!!!

The week’s plan…

We have our first show this weekend. It’s here in Del Mar at a venue called Show Park (just south of Mary’s Tack Shop). We have planned this show as our warm up show as it’s not a CDI, it’s a national (gold) show. The footing is wonderful, the stabling is super and the judges are great. Show Park not a venue that works well in the rain so we are very thankful the weather forecast is sunny all week.

Lance will get a light day on Wednesday and lessons with Shannon the other days this week. Fred and William looked great this weekend so will be up to full power this morning and be totally ready for lessons with Shannon.

So a full week of work with all three and then to the show grounds on Friday with Lance.

His ride time at the Mid-Winter Dressage Show for the Grand Prix is 1:32 Saturday and the Grand Prix Special is 1:54 Sunday.

And a very big event will be happening this weekend…Shannon’s long time coach and mentor, Karl Mikolka will be here. Her lessons are planned for Saturday and Sunday morning so we will be able to audit the work before heading to the show grounds to get Lance ready for his class. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch a master at work and we are very thankful that we can participate.

Gonna be a great week!!
