We got to work in the indoor arena yesterday (the show ring). Lance was wide eyed and very nosey…he finally started thinking about his job by the end of the session! He finds this indoor ring very, very interesting and would like Lindsey to just follow him around to go exploring the bleachers, the ring, the squishy footing, etc, etc, etc. Give him a pail and a shovel and he would have loved making sand castles at X!!! No sand castles Lance…how about piaffe?

Today will be be another session in the indoor with (we hope 🙂 ) serious Lance!

Off to find a large cup of tea!

Gold Canada Gold!!!!!

Cheering, waving my mitts in the air!!!!  What a great games in Sochi for Canada!!

Canada mitts

We both want thank you again for all your kind words and support for us this weekend.  It really meant a lot.  It’s so great to know we have such an amazing cheering squad.  Sometimes the journey is very long and every bit of support is cherished.  Thank you.

Yesterday’s warm up was even better than Friday’s.  Linds tackled the issue head on and Lance was on the program.  Once he cantered down centre line, he got confused as to what his job really was and went off task, in his ever helpful way.  There is no room in the lightning fast Grand Prix level to have a misread in the half halts between horse and rider…it unravels very quickly and is impossible for a good recovery.

So we know the work needed for the next couple of weeks and we’re on it.  The negative emotions and thoughts have been worked through (a good bottle of Californian Chardonnay was part of the conversation) and we are ready for the work ahead.

If you had a some time, David Wilson,  from Californian Dreaming Productions, would love to hear from you about his phenomenal efforts he and his crew put together for this show. They brought live streaming to you from the show ring.  His email is     David@cdpequestrian.com

Now…off to fill out our entries to the next couple of shows…

On to the Grand Prix Special this morning…

Firstly…thank you so much for all your support; your emails, texts and facebook messages.  They mean a lot to us.  My access to the internet is limited during the day so I do apologize for not updating you more quickly on our results.

Next…let me take back my comment about the indoor ring being horse friendly.  It looks wonderful and the footing is simply amazing.  During the warm up on Thursday the horses looked focused and happy in work.  But yesterday was a different story.  The horses went from a busy outside warm up ring to solo in a highly energized indoor ring.  We don’t know if it was the sound (the Geo-Tech footing is rolled very hard and each footfall echoes through the building) or the change in environment.  The low marks in all the CDI classes reflect the problems we were all having yesterday.  Tension, spookiness, unfocused horses.

Except for Steffen and Legolas…they were wonderful, 76%.  A beautiful, masterfully ridden test.

Lance and Linds had a great warm up outside yesterday; through, relaxed and ready.  As he came down centre line he got over excited and he then started making decisions about how he would execute the movements that didn’t really include Lindsey.  When Lance gets excited, he tries to be too helpful.  Linds got everything out of him she could but he was Mr. Excited Happy and he should have been Mr. Focused Happy.

So today will be a fine tune on the half halt, build from yesterday’s warm up and concentrate on keeping a better focus in the work.

Our ride time is 10:08 am PST and we will be ready.

Thank you for California Dreaming Productions for such a wonderful show and providing live streaming all day.  Here’s the link to the live streaming…

Jog done…on to the Grand Prix…

This CDI 3*W in Burbank is indoors.  We got to school in the indoor yesterday morning.  It has great, new footing; is very open and very horse friendly.  Schooling went very well.  Lance was focused and on the program.  As per our plan, we didn’t do very much; just touched on the main points of the current work and stretched him out.  A good first day warmup.

The jog was in the late afternoon and the weather was lovely.  Lindsey jogged in her official “Canadian” uniform and everyone looked great!

Ready for the jog...looking very Canadian...khakis, navy jacket, new red scarf!

Ready!

And they're off!

And they’re off!

Accepted!!!

Lindsey is the foreign rider delegate for this CDI so she drew the order of go for the classes.  We’re 6th up in the Grand Prix, 2:08 pm.  (If you are wondering, the seeded riders go towards the end of the class.)  6 is a good number!

Off to the show grounds for the day…
