Meraki…

(v) to do something with soul, creativity, or love; when you leave a piece of yourself in your work…

Meraki…I think I’ve found the word that describes this passion we call dressage. Meraki…work done with soul, creativity and love with a canvas that is this amazing creature equus…

And dressage is also a sport. The balance to meraki in this sport is an added dimension, a true balancing act day to day.

Meraki and keeping your eye on the goal in competition. Meraki and getting two athletes ready for game day. Meraki and going for it.

Lance and Lindsey worked great in the snaffle bridle yesterday. Yeah! We had two (we needed two!!) therapists working on and with him last night.

Lance is happy, we’re happy and we’re ready for today…one more warm-up in the snaffle and then a decision about the jog for this CDI.

Meraki…ohhhhhmmmmmmmm…grrrrrrrrrr….game day!!!

Ugh…Mr Chubby Cheeks does it again… :(

He’s bit the inside of his cheeks. Two days before we leave for the CDI, Mr CC is showing us how chubby his cheeks really are, again.

When choosing an international level dressage prospect, I thought I had ticked off most of the boxes when I choose Lance…great temperament, 3 great gaits, good feet, and did I mention…amazing personality! I did not know I also needed to look for a prospect without chubby cheeks!!! Who knew????!!! Chubby Cheeks are not a good feature????!!!

This is good...

This is good…

and this is good...

and this is good…

and so is this...

and so is this…

and this is very good!

and this is very good…ahhh, Mr CC himself! Chubby Cheeks or not…I still would have choose him to come home with me!!!

So here’s the plan…

  • We are going to ride for the next two days (before the show starts) in the snaffle bridle with a drop nose band (that’ll give the inside of his cheeks a chance to heal)
  • We’ve rigged up some special padding to go around the nose band on his double bridle.
  • and if all looks good on the inside of his mouth, we’ll put him in his double bridle on Friday for the Grand Prix.

Off to finish packing the trailer and drive north to San Juan Capistrano…sending healing thoughts for the next two days to my big bay horse!

Day off, day off, day off!!!

We had a great day of schooling yesterday (I know, I say that about everyday but it’s the truth!!!!). The amount of learning each day amazes me. Thank you, thank you Shannon! And thank you Lindsey for so expertly applying the concepts daily. And thank you Lance, William and Fred for “getting it!”

We had a great visit with Sherry and Jenny yesterday…more Canadians at Arroyo!!! They’ve headed back to Thermal for the Grand Prix (Jumping) on Sunday.

This is an unusual day for us…we’re getting a late start!! Peter very quietly snuck out of the house at 4 am (he had a early flight home). Ivars has finished his last lecture in the series on anaesthesia he brought with him (Cali laughed when I told her Papa had homework this week!!) and Lindsey has gone to the gym and then is off to Arroyo to do Saturday chores with the horses.

This is Ivars’ last day here this week and he and I are in the planning stages of “what shall we do today??!!!”. The forecast is 30C here at the beach and much warmer inland. Nice sunny weather and will be crowds and crowds of people out and about!!! Maybe we’ll just hang out around the pool…or maybe we’ll hop on the Vespa and head off into the sunshiney day!!! Yeah!

Off to a wonderful day off in San Diego…!!!

William loves the cavelletti!!

All four wheels off the ground!! Yeah William!!

Today is forecast is hot and sunny (it kinda feels like the desert!!). Peter and Ivars have a big 70 mile ride planned for the day; inland and south. I’m not sure if golf is on the schedule for the the other campers (Barb and Curtis) (something fun is I’m sure!!). And Lindsey and I have 3 tired horses to work today at Arroyo.

Hopefully, (if their GPS is functioning well…) Sherry and Jenny will join us for the day at Arroyo. They are in California taking in the jumper show in Thermal and added a day trip to visit us. We love visitors!!!

So as the morning starts around here…

Wishing you…

Fab day

A great surprize!!! Lynn McKinney and Stephan Forbes, on a quick visit to Arroyo!

Alas (for us) the cameraman and the stablehand are headed out to ride this crazy, crazy ride to the top of a mountain for cookies. (It’s the Palomar Mountain ride if you are interested in checking out the grade…) They will be climbing for 3 hours straight. That’s right…climbing for 3 straight hours for cookies. They are crazy. And they have friends. Cycling friends have flown down from Edmonton to join them. They also are crazy.

We, on the other hand are driving to the stable to ride around in circles on horses and to watch other “experts” ride around in circles. Hmmm…we also are crazy…married to crazy people. ❤ ❤

Off to our crazy lives…

A little newsy, catch up bit…

We’re all here in San Diego!!

It’s a bit like being at summer camp here…each camper has many activities and a chorus of good mornings starts each day and we end our days with cheerful good nights. 🙂

Peter and Ivars have put two very long days on their bikes..lotsa hills (they’re crazy.period.), lotsa miles. Barb and Curtis have checked out the amazing Home and Garden show at the Fairgrounds and Linds and I have had some (as usual) great learning time at the stable.

Linds and Lance walking to the Dressage Court at Arroyo for their first lesson of the day with Shannon.

The weather here has been stellar and the weekend is forecasted to be record breaking highs. Great for the cyclists and golfers in the group, not so great for our favourite diesel burner…Lance! We’re hoping the hot weather will break before the CDI next week and the big boys, Lance and Shannon’s Magic, will be much more comfortable doing their jobs in the sun!

Today is rest day for the two wheel riders and they are going to accompany us to Arroyo! Yeah!! Camera men!!! (the wheels on the tack box will get pumped up, William’s skin condition will get looked at and all sorts of FCS catch up chores will be caught up!) Thank you Ivars and Peter!

The campers are all getting up…time for tea and toast!!!
