67%, 67%, 69%, 69%, and (our big quest…) 72%!!!!!!  69.2% final score

Yesterday was Lance’s first run at his Grand Prix freestyle (thanks Karen Robinson, Applause Freestyle Design!!!!) and it went quite well :)!!  Can it be better?  You betcha!!! It’s gonna be!!!

It was a great weekend and guess what.. it is really just the start!

Into the Grand Prix CDI ring. We had to be very careful to get Lance from the warm up ring to the competition ring as he is barefoot and the path was very rocky.

Congrats Lindsey and Lance!!!

Ivars and I brought all the horses home from Calgary last night.  (Grace, Fred, William and Lance went to the show, only Lance competed.  The other 3 were there for schooling…and they are very tired ’cause they also worked very hard!)

Today is going to be a slow moving day around our farm of unpacking the horse trailer and the RV.  And if it stops raining, a turnout day for some very tired horses!!

I love my job.

We are at a horse show…

Yup…we’re at the CDI in Calgary and we are having fun and working hard (more on that tomorrow…)

But this is what we did last weekend!!!!   This province is more than Rocky Mountains and amazing mountain vistas; we have the most awesome topography in central Alberta…the Badlands!!!  Tyrell Museum (rrrrrr Dinosaurs!!!!!), Horse Thief Canyon, Bleriot Ferry and Dry Island Buffalo Jump…what a wonderful weekend!

Horse Thief Canyon...I'm sure the stories behind this name are awesome!

Ellen Bontje clinic today…

Lance thinks a bath on a chilly morning is a dumb idea…poor shivering boy needs 3 blankies to keep warm after his bath!!!

Lance bath

We have a clinic in Calgary with Ellen Bontje.  Lance and Lindsey will work with her and then ride a Grand Prix test.

Lance and I have about a 3-4 hour drive ahead to get to the clinic south of Calgary…better get loaded and get on the road!!

Warm tea mug in hand, off to get Lance on the trailer…

Pilates/Dressage Workshop!! Awesome!!

Yesterday was the Pilates/Dressage Refresher Workshop.  What a day!!

Pilates work on the mat can de-construct and explain many of the complex concepts and skills a rider’s body needs to develop to be more effective half halt  to half halt.

There it is…in all my years of writing this blog, I’ve never used the words “half halt” and now I’ve used them twice in the same sentence. Half halt is such an difficult concept to write about..it requires a kinesthetic explanation!  And we are continuously amazed after each workshop how Pilates on the mat can introduce (and with some novel props (reins and a big white ball)), explain such difficult body concepts that then can be applied to effectively half halt moving horse.

What a weekend at Flying Colours!!  Great people, great horses and really great work!!

And we do it all again soon!!
