From 65% to 75%…

We are going for it!!!

Yesterday was another schooling day of the Grand Prix test for Lindsey and Lance.

We’ve upped the depth of learning, we’ve upped the intensity of the work and we’ve upped the speed of execution of everything and it’s haaaaard.  This is not for sissies.  This is hard and satisfying and wonderful and and beautiful!!

We have 3 weeks before the CDI and we are going for it!!

Lindsey will be home this weekend and will get a well deserved “day off” of travelling today.  The horses will get the weekend off and be ready to get back to work on Monday afternoon when Linds gets back to San Diego.

Have fun Linds and enjoy your “day off” day today!!  Your weekend is jammed packed with lessons and your students are eager to have you back !!!

Off to get Lindsey to the Westjet check in gate…

Test day!!!

Today is test day for Lance.

He’s getting more and more confident in his new, more powerful balance.  In training every day, we work on parts of the test, some days linking 2 or 3 parts together.  Once a week we ask him to link all the parts and run through a full test.  That includes cantering up the ramp to the entrance at the dressage court to finishing with the salute at C.  Last week we tried out the Grand Prix test and we’ll go through that test again today.  Next week we’ll run through the Grand Prix Special before the show.

The show is next Saturday/Sunday at Del Mar Showpark, GP and the GP Special.

Early morning lesson with Lance, yesterday.

Early morning lesson with Lance, yesterday.

The weather has been quite foggy in the early mornings this week.  It’s a careful drive to the stable in such dense fog…really glad we can avoid the freeways to get there!!!

Off to the navigate another “Maids in the Mist” drive to Arroyo…

Early Start Wednesday…

We 2 early lesson times today with Shannon so we’ll be hustling to get out the door today.  No early morning workouts for either of us this early foggy morning! 🙂

Yesterday was dig in work for all three and the results were amazing.  Lindsey put together expert half halts time after time and produced the work need yesterday on all three.  This work is essential learning on the lead up to Lance’s second test day on Thursday.

So off we head into another “work it out” day!  Ooooh the learning and training that’s going on!!!!  So exciting!!

Off to Arroyo,

Monday…and back at it!!! :)

All three horses got 48 hours off this weekend.  They still did the treadmill/vibeplate thing each day (and in Lance and Fred cases, a lovely hand walk around the farm as well).  The time off was needed for maximum muscle recovery and for all three, well deserved.

So back at it Monday morning.  And all three were ready!  Fred and William worked in the sunshine of the morning and Lance went after lunch.

Lance, Linds and Shann yesterday.

Lance, Linds and Shann yesterday.

We were finished early at Arroyo Del Mar so treated ourselves to a late lunch/early dinner (our favourite meal time!!) at Native Foods Cafe.  This place is a favourite go to for a wonderful meal!!!  Vegetarian (and lotsa vegan options), so fresh, so tasty and so interesting!  Even my meat-eating husband would opt to eat here regularly with no complaints on his visits to San Diego.  http://www.nativefoods.com

Today Shannon is going to long line William (and then Lindsey will ride him) and then a lesson with Lance.  Fred will work with Lindsey and I today and lesson with Shannon tomorrow.

Off to another amazing day…

A weekend off!

This was a first..a weekend off!  2 full non riding days.

My goodness we had a great weekend…

Our Sunday morning "Orange Bun" start from Pannikin....mmmm gooood...

Our Sunday morning “Orange Bun” start from Pannikin….mmmm gooood…

The horses all got their time on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the Vibe Floor Saturday and Sunday.  It takes us about 2 hours at Arroyo on “day off” days to deal with the horses.

Lance expects us there about 8/8:30 so if we arrive a bit later he’s a little upset.  Sunday, because of the Orange Bun run to Pannikin, we were a bit late so Lindsey needed to spend some extra time with him.  She walked him around Arroyo after his treadmill session.  He then happily settled down in his stall and stood munching his lunch.  He is one special horse…

William on the Vibe Floor. It's like our Vibe Plate but bigger as the whole stall floor vibrates. Wonderful.

The amazing treadmill. I LOVE this piece of training equipment!!

And of course...we're totally crazy and went to Costco. No parking spaces (everyone had line up to wait till someone vacated a spot). This is the middle of the line to get out the door to leave!!!

And down....

A wonderful end to a wonderful weekend.

A busy week ahead.  Test day will be Thursday at Arroyo this week as Lindsey is flying home to Alberta to teach for 3 days this weekend.  Peter and the dogs will be very happy to see her!!  Her dance card for lesson times is jammed full but if you get a chance to drop her a note to say hi, she’d love it!!!

Off to work out…

First Grand Prix test done!!

Friday was test day for Lance and he was stellar!  We schooled the test at Arroyo in the dressage court with Lance in his new fully engaged balance.  I didn’t think he would be able to put the test together so well.  His new balance is a very athletic, intense, quick, light way of going.  And it’s very new to both him and Lindsey!  So to put all this together in a Grand Prix test was an awesome feat for both of them!

I am so proud of them!!!

Thank you Shannon Peters for taking us to this next level!

Everyone is getting 2 days off this weekend.  Well deserved, they all have been working soooo hard.  Now that I think I’ve figured out this youtube upload thingy, I’ll add more videos of Fred and William.  They are amazing as well!!!

Today is Sunday and as the horses have the day off (still on the treadmill and Vibe Floor though!!!) Lindsey and will indulge, with no regrets, in Orange Buns from Pannikin!!!  Ahhhhhh…..

Off to Pannikin, then to Arroyo,

Entries in for Del Mar!!

Our first show is 2 weekends from today in Del Mar and we’re ready!!!

Yesterday Lance’s work was short and to the point.  He needed to listen and intensively and energetically respond.  And he did.  So a short work session; amazing work, really amazing work, happy horse…back to the barn!

Today is test day for Lance…the first Grand Prix test of 2014!  We may even braid him!!!

Fred had a walk day yesterday.  She has been working so hard and so well we thought a walk day would be a great stretch addition to her week.  It was…very happy horse.  Today she’ll go back to full work.

William went back to work yesterday.  He’s had the week I was away off of work as he had a big bruise on the outside of his hoof, right hind.  Don’t know what he did but guessing he cast himself sometime in the night and whacked it getting up.  Silly boy.  But he’s back at work now and looks great.  Shannon long lined him and it looks like he is going to love the passage/piaffe work ahead!!!  Good boy William!!!  Today is more long lining with Shannon and then Lindsey up at the end of the session.

A walk in the sunshine with Lance before his lesson.

And, although this is the most exciting time of my life…learning, more learning and amazing learning…I really miss this….
