We’re sittin’ this one out.

“Life is a matter of waiting for the right moment to act.” Paulo Coelho

CDI competition in San Juan Capistrano this weekend but we’re staying home.

The boys are singing a different tune and are back on track…thanks so much Shannon, good work Lindsey.  Fred is doing great and finding a new confidence in her work.  Lindsey’s back is a bit sore…nothing a bit of rest wouldn’t cure though.  Taking a step back, looking at the long term goals and trying not to get caught up in the emotion…we’re sitting out this competition.  A very hard decision but the right one at so many levels.  Next competition is CDI Del Mar end of April.

The daily work…

“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors”

Both of the boys are “talking back” this week, as Steffen puts it.

The work each day has been generally going great but this week both William and Lance have been stomping their feet and having temper tantrums.  Thank goodness for Shannon.  She is a magician with long lines…amazing expertise, so much knowledge and insight, so very effective.

The “back talk” we are getting is about closing up their frames and staying active behind.  They are both such laid back, compliant horses; this is really the first time in their training they have said the big “NO”.  No is not the answer to the question boys…on to the long lines with Shannon with you!  Mrs. Peters will explain the concept.

This has definitely put a hiccup in our training timeline but we’re adapting and recalculating.

Today is a day off of training for all three.  We’ll head to the barn a little later in the morning, feed, walk, blanket and then the plans are to spend the afternoon with Curtis and Barb at the LPGA event at La Costa.  Something totally different, give our brains a rest and go for a nice walk!

Off to the barn…

Next show…San Juan Capistrano CDI

Wednesday started early and ended early around here.

Shannon long lined William at 7am, Lance’s lesson with Shannon was at 11 and we worked Fred at noon.  We had some spare time mid morning (rare!!!) so had the wonderful opportunity to sit and watch some great training and coaching.  Yeah!

Shannon is a magician with long lines.  Amazing touch, amazing skill, amazing results.  William is learning how to close up his frame and stay active with the hind leg.  Thank you Shannon for this work.  William is learning his job and growing up.

Lindsey and Lance have had a wonderful week with Shannon.  He’s getting stronger and really digging in.  Lindsey has been awesome (she always is :), gives it 100% in the saddle, each ride, each horse, every day) but this week has been super awesome!

Fred is working hard and getting more and more confident with her job.  She’s a good girl!!!

Barb and Curtis dropped by at the stable yesterday and so did Archie and Christine.  We were  just headed to the covered to work Fred…so everyone got a little peek at Fred and Lindsey at work.  So nice to have friends and family visit!  We enjoyed a lovely lunch with everyone and got caught up on all the news.

Today the vet is out to update all the horses’ FEI passports.

Gonna be another great day!

The sun is expected today!!!

The sun showed up late in the afternoon yesterday.  I took full advantage and headed to the beach for a long walk. (A very interesting book on my IPhone…IQ84…very interesting…)

Yesterday was a short day.  Lesson on Lance with Shannon in the covered arena (he was great, full of beans and full on go, go, go, yeah Lindsey, great riding!), day off for Fred and William.  (William is on a long line program with Shannon and the round pen was way too wet to work in and the covered way too busy.)  Today will be a normal day, everyone back at work.  The big jumper ring will still probably be too wet to ride in but the dressage court will be great as it was tarped for the rainy days.  Love that tarp!

The sun is still not up yet…did I mention I hate daylight savings time….

Gonna be a great day!

Oh boy!!! rain!!!

I know, I know…we don’t have to shovel it but boy did it rain!  Lotsa rain, lotsa wind, lotsa noise.  Nothing like a storm in a motorhome….fiberglass roof, metal walls = not much sleeping.  But I must say the rocking back and forth was kinda exciting!

Peter was visiting for the weekend and got a ride in on the bike before the deluge.  Lindsey and Peter then disappeared to LA and I headed to the barn to tend to the horses on Saturday and Sunday.  The horses enjoyed their down time (they didn’t get out of their winter blankets for the whole weekend) and stayed snugly warm.

The wind has let up and the rain has stopped this morning.

Gonna be a great day!

Computers…ugh…

Everything is going great.  They are all working hard.  Everyone is working hard ‘cept my computer.  Asus ESlate, super portable (great trait for the traveling back and forth bits) but after the last windows update, my bluetooth keyboard won’t sync to the slate.  So I’m stuck typing on this tiny touch screen, cross eyed and fumble fingered!  Hopefully I can get it fixed soon.

Peter is here for the weekend so Lindsey will have the weekend off.  They are going to take a couple of days and explore LA.

The horses will enjoy a “no school” weekend.  Treadmill, massage and hand walk….”Ah Lindsey have a fun weekend…we’ll miss you, but not too much!”

Starting the day in the dark….again….I HATE Daylight Savings Time!!

Saturday…Day Two…

Early start to the day as Fred’s ride time was 8am.  Everything was going all smashingly…braided, tacked up, almost finished the warmup aaaaaand Lindsey’s right spur strap breaks…ugh.  Not enough time to run back to the tack room (though Barb and I tried), reassemble the spur, finish the warmup and get down centre line on time.  The option of riding without spurs (which would have worked with Fred) is illegal at this level.  Finished the warmup and put Fred away worked, happy and ready for today’s test.

Lance’s ride was at the end of the day.  He had a couple of long walks around the show during the day and was happy and fit and ready to go. He warmed up fantastic.  Lindsey rode amazing and he responded and was ready to go.  The arena was electric, full of spectators and noise.  He backed up a bit in the test but was still so rideable.  A great test on a green Grand Prix horse! 61%  So proud of Lindsey. So proud of Lance.

On to the Special today on Lance and Inter One on Fred….
