They’re on the truck.

The horses loaded this morning at 6am.  They should be at the US  border noonish and then head it south!  We should be unloading them at Arroyo tomorrow night…fingers, toes, legs and anything else crossed!  Stress levels will drop as we see them walk down the ramp, off the truck tomorrow.

Recap from yesterday; we did some real touristy things and headed to Balboa Park (museums and lunch) and then to the Birch Scripps Aquarium.

The desert garden in Balboa Park.

The kelp garden at the Aquarium.

So cute...seadragons!!!

The seadragons were so sweet!!

The weather has been so warm these last couple of day; sunny, warm winds; perfect.  That’s all about to change as a marine layer is moving in; cloudy, a bit of rain, colder.  We need to take the coach to Temecula and have some updates done so with the weather change, this will be a good day to head north for a couple of days.  Lindsey flies in tomorrow…Hey Linds…we may be doing the long drive to Temecula for a couple of days!  Here’s hoping they can get everything done tomorrow and Ivars can drive the coach back to Oceanside tomorrow evening!

I need another cup of tea!

A sun shiny day in California.

Ivars had an online lecture first thing in the morning and then we pulled our bikes out and hit the road.  We cycled down the PHC (PCH is Pacific Coast Hwy…learned the short form from a “cycling dude”).  Beautifully warm and sunny.  We cycled south past breaking white capped waves and miles and miles of sand beaches to my favorite tea shop, Pannikin in Encinitas.  A big mug of tea and then cycled home.

A nice big mug of tea then back on the bike!

Looks like another beautiful day ahead today.

Off to plan the day,

V

We’re back in California.

Ivars and I arrived in California on Friday.  We started on the list of things to do to with chores around the coach.  There’s always stuff to do with a RV!  It’s like owning a boat all over again!

We called it quits from tweaking late yesterday afternoon and headed to the beach.  Low tide was at 4pm and the sun set at 4:45.  We walked the 3miles to the pier at Oceanside.  The sun was shining, the water was gleaming and the sound of the waves hitting the sand was perfect.

A perfectly lovely walk on the beach at the end of a great day!

The RV park (and everywhere else we went) is packed as it’s Thanksgiving here.  Today will be the big exodus of RVs from the park.  The interstates will be very busy as this is the biggest travel day of the year for the US.

We’re headed out on our bikes to find a brunch on the beach.

Off to unpack my bike…

Countdown is on!

Lindsey and I are both are working flat-out, 12 – 14 hr days, getting it done and getting ready to hit the road!

Thompson Horse Transport is taking the horses to California again this year.  They do such a great job.  The horses arrive happy and well.  It’s a straight, about 44 hour drive from door to door, FCS to Arroyo.  They are in box stalls in the truck and can see each other all the way.  The drivers are caring and very experienced.

The Thompson truck comes from Vancouver to FCS and then it’s a straight haul to San Diego.  The plan is for the truck to be here Monday night and load horses Tuesday 6am.  That will get them to the US border and the Federal vet at a reasonable time and then head south.  Right now there is a huge storm in BC and one more expected today.  Yesterday the passes in the mountains were closed, power was out in Vancouver and the highway to Alberta was very treacherous.  Penelope at Thompson’s is very much on top of getting the trucks out and back safely, so a day or two delay is doable for Thompson’s and definately for us.  Here’s hoping the weather settles down.

Ivars and I fly out of Edmonton tomorrow.  We’ll have a couple of days in California before the horses arrive to catch up on things there.  Lindsey will take over the farm here and load the horses at FCS Tuesday, then fly south on Wednesday.  If the horses are on the road as planned, we should all meet up at Arroyo Wednesday evening!  Whew…Wednesday evening.

As we don’t need the truck/trailer till January, Peter will drive it down after Christmas.

Let’s get this day started!!!

Brrrrr…

A big, huge congratulation to Lindsey!!!!!  She is now a Certified Stott Pilates instructor.  She did the super-woman thing and tackled this mega education project in amongst everything else to be done this fall.  Well done girl; a good job, well done!!!  Happy Birthday to you. (Now that your exam is over, you can really celebrate!!!)

It’s been very cold here for the last couple of days, -20 or below each morning.  Morning chores are a fast-paced flurry of turn out, clean stalls, bed, fill nibble nets, and bring them back in to their stalls.  Everyone wants back in (they haven’t adapted to the chilliness yet).  They are all working very well (the barn and arena are toasty warm so our work schedule not been interrupted).

The big crunch is on…less than a week before Ivars and I head south and just over a week till the horses leave.  The lists are getting shorter and we very excited about our winter in the south!!!  The 44 hours that the horses are on the road from here to California are very high stress so we will all breathe a big sigh of relief once they step off the truck.  Wish we could “Beam me up Scottie” to get them to Arroyo!!!

Today is another crazy, busy day…off to my cozy barn (I love my job!!!!)

Good wishes for Lindsey…

In addition to all the riding and training Lindsey does each week (and she also has a “real” job; a partner in Stroh Consulting); she has been taking part in a very intensive course with Stott Pilates in Calgary this fall.  Tomorrow is her exam to be certified as a Stott Pilates Instructor.  Lindsey has been involved with Pilates for many years and regularly teaches mat classes in Camrose and at FCS.  Stott Pilates is the leader in the Pilates exercise training movement.  Her certification with Stott will be a well deserved award.  Good luck tomorrow Linds…go for it!!!

Today is day off for our horses.  They’ll only be out in their paddocks for an hour or so…snow coming.

Gonna be a very white day!!!
